What
constitutes a fairtrade town or city?
There are five steps to becoming a fairtrade town or city as defined by
the
fairtrade foundation.
Step
One - achieved 25th October 2005
The local council must pass a resolution supporting fairtrade and serve
fairtrade tea and coffee at its meetings and in offices and canteens.
Step
Two - achieved (see the Directory
for details)
A range of fairtrade products are readily available in shops and served
in local cafes and catering establishments.
Step
Three -
achieved (see the Directory
for details)
Fairtrade products are used by a number of local work places ( estate
agents, hairdressers, etc) and community organisations (churches,
schools etc)
Step
Four - achieved
Attract media coverage and popular support for the campaign.
Step
Five - achieved
A local fairtrade steering group is convened to ensure continued
commitment to its fairtrade town status.
